Across Pennsylvania, small, local organizations are doing big things for birds and their habitats. The Breeding Bird Blitz for Conservation (B4C) is launching B4C Mini Grants to support this important work.

How It Works

When teams register for the Breeding Bird Blitz, each team captain may nominate one Pennsylvania-based conservation organization to receive a $1,500 B4C Mini Grant. While an organization may be nominated by more than one team, it may receive only one Mini Grant. Additionally, current Conservation Partners may not be nominated (in 2026 these are Schuylkill County Conservancy and 3PBA/Hawk Mountain Sanctuary).

Nominated organizations must be actively working in one or more of the core areas supported by B4C funding:

  • Bird-Safe Habitats

  • Conservation Education

  • Conservation Monitoring & Science

  • Threat Mitigation

The PSO Conservation Committee reserves the right to determine whether nominated organizations meet grant criteria.

Organizations receiving funding must agree to the following:

  • The grant will be spent on projects located in Pennsylvania.

  • The grant will directly support conservation work and will not be used for administrative costs or required habitat offsets associated with development projects.

  • Provide a report to the PSO Conservation Committee describing how the funds were used.

How Recipients Are Chosen

Each B4C participating team may submit one nomination. All nominated organizations will be randomly ordered, and $1,500 Mini Grants will be awarded until available funds are fully distributed.

Our 2026 Goal

If we reach our fundraising goal of $22,000, we will fund three Mini Grants supporting conservation work across Pennsylvania. If we exceed that goal, even more organizations can receive B4C support.

Why It Matters

B4C Mini Grants help expand the impact of the Breeding Bird Blitz by:

  • Supporting grassroots conservation efforts across the state.

  • Giving Blitz teams a direct role in identifying important projects.

  • Increasing the number of conservation partners benefiting from the B4C.

Be Part of the Impact

By forming a team, participating in the Blitz, and donating to the B4C, you help support meaningful conservation work for Pennsylvania’s birds. Together, we can protect habitats, advance science, and inspire the next generation of bird stewards.
